Student Work Placements
TUI UK & Ireland's award-winning student placement scheme gives you the opportunity to work in a real role, making important commercial decisions and with real responsibility.
What’s in it for you?
We're offering placement opportunities within the Commercial Division of our head office in Luton. The roles are within four departments - Product, Yield, Purchasing and Cruise. The placement scheme is a great opportunity. You'll be part of a huge organisation, in a full time role with real responsibility, making important commercial decisions. But it doesn't end there. Our placement scheme also includes an induction period, workshops and social events with your new colleagues and fellow students. Training workshops continue throughout the year and include sessions like Time Management and Be Assertive.
We want to give you the best possible work experience at TUI, and we're focussed on your development during your placement year. But we're thinking about the future, too. We hope to build a lasting relationship. And, who knows, maybe you'll be back again - applying for a graduate or full time position.
It goes without saying we think our Placement Scheme is one of the best. And we're pleased to say we're not alone. We won best placement scheme for companies with over 250 employees, best new placement scheme and best overall at the 2010 National Council for Work Experience Awards. Here is a bit more information about the different roles that we offer:
Product Assistant
Every day is different in Product. You'll work with people from all over the business - Brand, Marketing, Publishing and Purchasing are just a handful of the teams you'll be in touch with. Best things about working in product? Launching a new season and investigating new hotels to put on sale. By the end of your placement, you'll know your area inside out.
Early Trading Assistant
Early Trading is really diverse. You'll be working on several seasons at once, looking at flights, packages and all the other different elements of the holiday. You'll be responsible for maximising saleability for your resorts. Day to day you'll have dealings with various teams from around the business - Web, Marketing and Purchasing will all put in an appearance - so it goes without saying that good communication skills are one of the keys to your success. Best things about working in Early Trading? Working across several seasons at a time, you really get to see the fruits of your labour. You monitor sales of a long period of time so you can analyse where changes will make the most impact. It's rewarding to see something performing well because of the hard work you've put in.
Late Trading Assistant
Working in late trading you'll be responsible for getting bums on seats - and in beds - which, in trading terms, means filling our planes and hotels at the best possible prices. You'll be working on the current season from about 12 weeks before departure, monitoring sales and making price adjustments. You'll interact with other parts of the business regularly, feeding back results to Product and Flight Planning as well as working with Marketing and Web to make sure your areas are well represented in all distribution channels. Best things about Late Trading? You get the freedom to make pricing decisions that make a real difference to the bottom line.
Accommodation Only Trading Assistant
Almost every hotel or apartment TUI sell as part of a package, we also sell as a stand alone product. Working in Accommodation Only (AO) you'll be responsible for pricing many of these hotels to maximise sales. You'll work closely with the rest of Trading as well as other parts of the business, like Inventory and Finance, to make sure our hotels are promoted to customers, priced and set up correctly. The best thing about AO is that you'll work across all seasons, so you'll get to grips with early and late trading.
Cruise Trading Assistant
The Cruise Department is almost like a business within a business. It has its own dedicated teams for Planning, Brand, Operations and several more besides, and you'll be working closely with them all. You'll have responsibility for several ships across the Thomson Cruises and Island Cruises fleets, making sure we sell high volumes at the best possible price. Best things about Cruise Trading? You get a really good variety of work to do, so no two days are the same - there's definitely more to it than just number crunching.
Cruise Planning Assistant
Cruise is a specialist area. And by the time you go back to Uni, you'll really know your stuff. Like Cruise Trading, you'll build close relationships with all the other Cruise teams - Brand, Trading, Business Support and Inventory to name a few. Plus, you'll liase with other teams around the business, such as Flight Planning and Mainstream Product, as you build our portfolio up. Best things about Cruise Planning? You get ownership of the brochure planning cycle for your ships and/or resorts, from initial planning and set up to pricing and page sign-off.
Purchasing Assistant
This role is all about finer details of hotel contracting. You’ll be supporting the Overseas Accommodation Buying Team with all sorts of contract management. You’ll get to know the Product Development, Inventory, Product and Trading teams really well, Plus, you’ll be in regular contact with the Area Managers who look after our destinations. In terms of responsibilities, you’ll be looking after the integrity of our hotel contracts, making sure they’re accurate and liaising with suppliers to maximise our profit. You’ll need first-class communication skills and if you can speak a language, preferably Spanish, Turkish, Greek, Arabic, Italian, French or Portuguese, it will be a big help.
